Samir Ballou is a Toronto-based film programmer, educator and filmmaker.

He is currently the Industry and Education Manager at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, where he develops industry and professional development programming for emerging and established filmmakers and creatives. His work includes programming industry related events, writing initiatives, and Reel Asian’s short film pitch competition. He also leads educational initiatives, such as visiting elementary and high schools alongside filmmakers for screenings and workshops.

Samir curates and hosts year-round events featuring filmmakers, industry professionals, unions, and other voices from across the screen sector. His programming spans film education, professional development, pitching, writing, and industry access.

Alongside his work in film programming and education, Samir is a filmmaker. In 2026, he is completing a short adventure-comedy film set on the island of Réunion.
